Introduction

The Quigley Law Association was created by alumni of Quigley, Quigley North, Quigley South, and Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary, and the friends of these schools who serve or have served in the legal community.

The purpose of the Quigley Law Association is to 1) provide for personal camaraderie and professional development between and among Quigley alumni and friends active in the legal professions; 2) enhance alumni and friend support of the Quigley Scholars Program; and 3) contribute, in any way that is possible, to the mission of educating and supporting young men to respond to the call of Jesus Christ, "Come, follow me."

The Quigley Law Association and St. Thomas More

The Quigley Law Association has taken as its patron and annually observes the June 22nd feast day of St. Thomas More. The Association marks the occasion with Mass followed by the Association's annual luncheon at which an honoree is awarded the Quigley Law Association's St. Thomas More Primo Servus Dei Bonus (First of all the Good Servant of God) award.

Criteria for the Primo Servus Dei Bonus Award

Recipients of the Primo Servus Dei Bonus Award must plainly meet each of the following three criteria:
  1. The recipient must be a practicing Catholic in unblemished standing with the Church and a proponent of Catholic orthodoxy;

  2. The recipient must be of good moral character whose life work and general conduct plainly and publicly are acknowledged as reflecting a deep and sincere devotion to the Faith; and

  3. The recipient must have contributed outstanding and unselfish service to the Church of a kind and in the spirit of St. Thomas More, who famously remarked as he mounted the scaffold and addressed the assembled crowd, that he was "the King's good servant, and God's first."
Though not necessary to receive the recognition, candidates who also meet any of the following three criteria are favored over those who do not:
  1. Candidates who are graduates, former faculty or administrators of Quigley are favored over candidates without such a connection to Quigley.

  2. Candidates who are active in the legal profession, government, politics and other related fields and who, in that capacity have publicly advocated for policy views consistent with Catholic orthodoxy even at personal risks to themselves or to their station in life.

  3. Candidates who have contributed materially to the support and encouragement of vocations to the priesthood, either through the Quigley Alumni Office, The Quigley Scholars Program and other similar endeavors, or who, though more personal and private initiatives but consistently and successfully have brought vocations to the priesthood.
Nominations will be solicited throughout the year. The award is not made annually and will not be made in the absence of candidates deemed suitably distinguished.
