Fine Arts
The Fine Arts Department believes that students should experience the arts as an integral part of the curriculum at Archbishop Quigley Seminary. The fine arts requirement of two credit hours reflects Quigley's commitment to holistic education, where students are given the invitation and opportunity to explore their creativity and skills so that they can express parts of themselves that only art and music can touch.
- Visual Arts
An ART APPRECIATION course is required of all freshmen in which they receive an overview of art history and an introduction to the elements of art, including experience with various media to illustrate these concepts. Freshmen also learn to critique realistic and abstract works of art in a four-step process.
To complete their fine arts requirements, sophomores may enroll in a concert choir for the full year, or elect semester art and music classes again. This sophomore DRAWING I course uses right brain theories to help students tap into their ability to draw realistically.
Upperclassmen have two electives from which to choose. ADVANCED DRAWING exposes students to extensive study in various media in still life, figure, and perspective drawing, and a creative piece. PAINTING/SCULPTURE/PRINTMAKING gives students the opportunity to explore woodcut printmaking, acrylic and watercolor painting, and hand built ceramics. Students in these upper level classes are encouraged to develop their skills to a high degree as well as explore a unique style.
Seniors who are interested in going on to a college art program may take an INDEPENDENT STUDY IN STUDIO ARTS course where they can explore areas of interest in depth. They are also assisted in preparing an impressive portfolio of their work..
- Music
Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary offers all its students exciting and cutting-edge programs in music.
Sophomores can choose to participate in one of two classes - CONCERT CHOIR or BEGINNING GUITAR. The BEGINNING GUITAR class gives the students an opportunity for some "hands on" beginning guitar techniques. The CONCERT CHOIR performs for daily Masses as well as a Christmas concert and other events throughout the year.
The upper classmen have an opportunity to continue with the ADVANCED CHOIR or a MUSIC COMPOSITION class. The ADVANCED CHOIR is showcased throughout the year for several performing opportunities in school and out. The MUSIC COMPOSITION class gives students who have a love for music a beginning look at composing music on the computer as well as recording music with several tracks and learning editing tools.
