Science Department
The
Science Department strives to prepare young men to function in a world that is rapidly
developing in technology and information. Leaders in such a world must have a thorough
grounding in mathematics, science, and computer use.Technology itself raises critical
questions of ethics and stewardship that the human family will be called upon to confront.
Our mission of aiding young men in exploring a vocation to the priesthood must contain a
firm foundation in understanding these important elements of modem life.
The Science Department has as its overreaching goals:
- to provide instruction that will adequately prepare students for college level work in
science, from introductory courses through Advanced Placement levels;
- to ensure that students become aware of the logical structures that underpin scientific
work and that these methodologies are useful in any problem-solving situation;
- to examine the ethical and moral implications of the technology that surrounds and often
controls our modem world;
- to provide students with an introduction to computers and various software applications
pertinent to scientific study; to provide every student with meaningful science laboratory
experiences which nurture creative and critical thinking skills;
- to foster scientific interests of students by encouraging participation in
extra-curricular science activities.
