The Quigley Chessnuts Do It Again!

Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary's chess team, the Chessnuts, participated in the annual Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Team Chess Championships held in Peoria on February 10 & 11.  There were 122 teams from all over the state taking part and the Chessnuts finished 9th overall in the seven round tournament.

There are only three trophies that are presented by IHSA, the chess coaches themselves have instituted awards based on school size.  The chessnuts successfully defended their Class 1A championship (schools with under 750) by finishing with a 5-2-0 record, losing in close matches only to Normal and Evanston who finished 2nd and 3rd in the overall competition.

Junior Miguel Lopez earned an individual medal from the IHSA with a 9th place finish playing board 3.

Congratulations On a Great Year!
