Reverend Brian G. Walker, OP
Quigley South 1974
Fr. Walker was ordained to the
priesthood on March 15, 1986. He attended
Quigley Preparatory Seminary South and Loyola University where he received a Bachelor of
Arts in Theology in 1978. In 1986 he was
awarded a Master of Divinity Degree from the Catholic Theological Union.
His first assignment was as an
associate pastor at San Juanito in Oaxaca, Mexico. After
four years he moved to the Los Angeles area taking the position of associate pastor at St.
John the Evangelist Parish. His next
assignment was as a teacher at Cardinal Ritter College Prep in St. Louis, Missouri. For the last ten and a half years Fr. Walker has
been serving as pastor at St. Basil Visitation in Chicago.
When
St. Basil and Visitation parishes were merged Fr. Walker remembers that there were many
buildings to deal with and after parishioner input a decision was made to consolidate. After a liturgy, Fr. Walker and parishioners
moved from St. Basil to the Visitation site with the Blessed Sacrament and the statues of
Our Lady of Guadalupe and of St. Basil stopping traffic along the way. St. Basil Visitation is a bilingual, multicultural
parish serving people from both the Spanish and English speaking communities.
Involvement in his Dominican
Community through the years has included the leadership positions of admissions board
member, provincial counselor, house superior, and formations counsel member.
Fr. Walker has served Archbishop
Quigley as a member of the Board of Advisors. He
is also an adjunct faculty member working as a formation director with the freshmen and
junior classes. In 2004, he was the recipient
of the Archdiocesan Augustus Tolton Award.
