Fr. Jack Daley grew up in St. Thomas More parish on the far south side of Chicago. He entered Quigley South as part of its first freshman class in 1961. Following studies at the archdiocesan seminaries in Niles and Mundelein, he was ordained in 1973. Fr. Daley served the Archdiocese as an Associate Pastor until he was assigned to Quigley South in 1976 where he spent the next eleven years as a teacher, counselor, Director of Formations, Director of Recruitment and Admissions, and Moderator of Student Government. In 1990, after three more years in parish ministry, Cardinal Bernardin called upon Fr. Daley to be the first rector of Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary, successor to both Quigley South and Quigley North.

The formation of this "new" Quigley was a difficult task which he approached with characteristic enthusiasm and dedication. Parents, students, alumni and faculty all had deep affection for the prior Quigleys. Some even had doubts about the future of Chicago's minor seminary. Fr. Daley's perseverance and his unflinching faith in the historical mission of Quigley inspired everyone involved in Quigley's rebirth. Under his leadership and direction, Archbishop Quigley's enrollment steadily increased, an outstanding faculty was assembled, an Advisory Board was developed, and the formation program became a model for other minor seminaries across the country. Archbishop Quigley's mascot is the Phoenix, a legendary bird which rose from its own ashes. Fr. Jack Daley is responsible for the Phoenix-like rebirth of Quigley Seminary. |
