Quigley is hosting its fourth annual Chess tournament on Saturday, December 10, 2005. In this event, members of grades 7 and 8 will compete against the computer in the first round. This will let the judges narrow down who will advance to the second round, where the winners in the first round will face each other. Keep in mind that in the first round, the competitors will play against the computer, so it you do not have to be an expert to participate in the tournament. The players will receive awards determined by how far they get in the second round. There will be awards for 1st place, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. The first place champion will be determined by a final game played.
If you have never seen Quigley, then you may want to stop by
for a visit. People who don't qualify for the second round may choose to
stay and use the computer lab or tour Quigley. You may get a chance to see
other parts of Quigley and meet members of the current chess team, the
Chessnuts. Mr. Schumann, the Chess coach will be present as well, to scout
people who do like Chess. Come down to the Chess tournament and get to
know Quigley. All players will receive certificates, the top finishers
will receive medals.
The tournament will commence at 9:30, the awards will be
presented at approximately 11:30. Registration should be sent in by
