Archbishop Quigley's 8th Annual Math and Science Competition took place on Saturday, February 21, 2004.  106 - 6th graders and 97 - 7th graders participated, for a total of 203 participants.  The top ten for each grade were to be presented with Medals.   In reality, because of ties, 11 - 7th grade boys received medals (randomly selected questions were used as a tie breaker), and because of calculation problems, 13 - 6th grade boys will eventually be presented with medals.   All received a Certificate of Participation and a genuine Quigley Pocket Calculator.  Before the awards presentation, while the exams were being graded, students had the opportunity to use Quigley's Gym, Swimming Pool, Weight Room, Computer Labs, watch a movie, and have lunch in the Cafeteria.

The separate exams for 6th and 7th grade were put together by members of Quigley's Math and Science Departments.  Contestants had 1 hour and 30 minutes for the exam.   The 6th grade exam had 124 questions (62 Math & 62 Science).  The 7th grade exam had 147 questions (60 Math & 87 Science).   The exam links below will display the results sorted by Scantron ID#.  There are gaps in the ID # because not all the Scantron sheets were used in each room.

Because of a problem with several totals with the 6th grade exam, all the calculations were done again after the competition had concluded.  Those students whose medal places are marked with an asterisk moved into the top 10 and so will be awarded a medal.   These medals will be mailed to the awardees.  We apologize for not recognizing these students in our awards ceremony in our chapel.  We do want to be accurate with our totals.  There were no problems with the 7th grade totals.

This Math and Science exam is not a standardized exam.  The exam was designed to be challenging because it was meant to be competitive.  Students use to such academic competition are better prepared for the rigors of this exam.  This exam is not indicative of success in the classroom.  Rather, one of the best gauges of academic success is the amount of effort a student puts into his studies.

The following two links display the raw scores for 6th & 7th grade respectively.

These other two links display the scores as a curved percent, with the high score in each category receiving a 100%.
