Quigley's 9th Annual Math and Science Competition took place on Saturday, February 26, 2005. This proved to be Quigley's largest ever Math and Science Event. 116 - 6th graders participated and 117 - 7th graders participated for a total of 133 students. The Top Ten 6th and 7th graders were awarded Medals and all participants were presented with Certificates of Achievement and a genuine Quigley Calculator. Before the awards ceremony, while the exams were being corrected, the students had the opportunity to use Quigley's Gym, Swimming Pool, Weight Room, Computer Labs, watch a movie, and have lunch in the Cafeteria..
Each grade level had a different test. 6th grade had 70 Math questions and 70 Science questions. 7th grade had 70 Math questions and 75 Science questions. The exam was put together by Quigley's Math and Science Departments. Contestants had 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete the exam. In computing the Top Ten for each grade, if there was a tie, tie breaker questions started with question 51.
The exam links below will display the results sorted by Scantron ID# and from highest to lowest. There are gaps in the ID#'s because not all the Scantron sheets were used in each room.
Several requests have been made for a copy of the Exams. Because of the time required for Quigley's teachers to make up the exam, it would be very difficult to produce a totally different exam each year. Only modifications are made every year in the hopes of improving the exam. We have already talked about making the Math portion of the exam more reflective of what students are expected to know in 6th & 7th grade. We will, however, be posting within the next week a listing of the various topical categories included in the Math and Science Exams.
This Math and Science exam is not a standardized exam. The exam was designed to be challenging because it was meant to be competitive. Students use to such academic competition are better prepared for the rigors of this exam. This exam is not indicative of success in the classroom. Rather, one of the best gauges of academic success is the amount of effort a student puts into his studies.
