Worldwide Youth in Science
and Engineering
(WYSE)
Winners
Brief Information The competition is designed to encourage young peope to consider careers in the sciences, with an emphasis upon the engineering sciences. The students compete in three divisioins with Quigley being in the Division III (schools with less than 300 enrollment). AQPS has been competing in this competition since the new Quigley's inception. Sister Joan Meheny, OP (Quigley's 1st academic dean) encouraged the schoool to get involved. In 1995, with the help of John Renze (the present chess coach) AQPS took the state title in Divison III....the trophy is in the case. Students compete
in the areas of biology, chemistry, physics, math, engineering graphics, computer science and english. The team must score in the areas of English, math and a "floater" (decided at each
competition). There is a non-scoring category of Current Events in Science and Technology. Quigley has currently competed in regionals, with a trip to Sectionals in Naperville
Central College, March 19th. The state competition is held every year at the Univ. of IL-UC
campus. Again, to expose the students to the possiblity to careers in math and
science. Congrats to all Participants |
