On Thursday, April 19, Fr. Dennis Ziomek, Mr. Marty Graham-McHugh, and three Quigley's WEB Masters students, John Pham '02, Ian Camilotes '02, and Juan Cortes '03, made the 2 hour trip to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to accept the Catholic Schools for Tomorrow Award for Innovations in Technology from Today's Catholic Teacher. Quigley was one of the twelve Catholic schools from across the country chosen to receive this award, and the only school in Illinois. Of the twelve schools picked for the award, three of which were high schools and Quigley was one of the three.
What made it possible for Quigley to receive the award was the integration of technology in the school, the classrooms, and especially the curriculum. However, this was not made possible without the hard work and dedication of Fr. Ziomek, the Director of Technology, Mr. Paul Davidson, Assistant Director, and all the teachers who integrate technology into their courses.
At Milwaukee, Quigley's representatives enjoyed a delicious meal before the awards ceremony in the Hilton Hotel. Quigley was fortunate enough to have dinner in the company of World Book Encyclopedia, who would later introduce and present the award to us. After dinner, the masters of ceremony, Bret Thomas, began to start the night off by thanking the sponsors, and those who help judge the schools. Some of these people would be Peter Li, Sr. Angela Ann Zukowski, and Mary Noschang. In addition, he also pointed out the three Quigley students who were present because they were the first students ever to be at this event. After the acknowledgements, Becky Carroll from World Book Encyclopedia introduced and presented Quigley with the award.
Before the night was over, Making it Happen came to the podium and presented an award and a pink jacket to one of the women present, who helped integrate technology into the curriculum in schools. In addition, each of the twelve sponsors received a sponsor award for being a part of this event and helping make it happened. However, the best present of all was towards the end, when a representative from Palm presented each school with their own Palm Pilot and a training session the next morning.
Quigley would like to thank Today's Catholic Teacher again for choosing us as the recipient of the Catholic Schools for Tomorrow Innovation in Technology Award. In addition, Quigley would like to congratulate all schools who also received the award. Finally, Quigley would like to say hello to Anthony Wojcicki, Becky Carroll, Janet Peterson, and Christine Senger, all from World Book Encyclopedia, and thank them for their enjoyable company at dinner.
