
Quigley again hosted t
he
third round of the district Illinois Certamen. This is a college-bowl type of
competition between schools in Illinois on three levels: Novice (Latin 1), Lower
(Latin2), and upper (Latin 3&4.) There are four members on each team. Question
are taken from Greek and Roman mythology, Roman history and, of coarse, Latin g
rammar
and translation. A toss-up question leads the round worth 10 points, and, if
correctly answered, two bonus question worth 5 point each. The team with the
highest points after three rounds wins that meet. The student with the highest
individual points becomes the MVP. Nine area schools competed in this third
round. The winner now goes on to Elgin for the state finals. Although
Quigley placed fourth with two teams, they were a tough competitor.
Quigley's Novice team consisted of: freshmen David Arcibar, Joe Kirchoff, Charles Heinrich, Don Nonato, and alternate Jonathon Mondragon.
The lower team included: sophomores Izydor Radzik, Juan Aviles, Bruce Scavuzzo, and John Anschuetz.
The Upper team was composed of: seniors James Cahill, Matthew Heinrich, Thomas Murphy and Henry Nguyen.
