AQPS Rome Trip 2006

The Quigley sponsored trip to Italy included: Dr. Napiwocki, guide; the Revs. Peter Snieg, Paul Kalchik, Mark Kalema, Gerald Walsh and Dennis Ziomek; seniors Todd Burkhart, James Cahill, Joseph Frey, Matthew Heinrich, Michael Hernandez, Leonard Kunkelk Thomas Murphy, Ryan Reyes and Bradley Zamora; sophomore Frank Gonzalez; freshmen Dan Diaz, Lucas Janica, Sean Keil and Don Nonato.

On June 21, 2006, the group departed from O'Hare for Rome via Frankfurt. June 23 was an all day excursion to Assisi. On June 24 the group travelled to Pompeii along the Amalfi Drive with spectacular views of Mount Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples.

On Sunday, the 25th, they had a guided tour of Capri including a boat ride around the island. That evening the group left for Rome where they stayed at a centrally located Bed & Breakfast. The 26th was spent viewing ancient Rome: the forum, Circus Maximus, Colloseum.

The 27th was a trip out to the catacombs of St. Sebastian. The 28th the group attended the regular Wednesday papal audience in St. Peter's square.

The 29th, the solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, was a special day since the group attended the papal Mass in St. Peter's basilica in the morning followed by the recitation of the Angelus with Pope Benedict XVI in St. Peter's square after the Mass. The afternoon was spent at St. Paul's basilica. The next day was the return to Chicago via Frankfurt and Washington D.C.
